Legend of Tulsi Vivah
The Divine Union of Tulsi Maharani and Bhagwan Vishnu
Tulsi Vivah is one of the most sacred and beautiful ceremonies in our tradition. It celebrates the spiritual wedding of Mata Tulsi—the incarnation of devotion and purity—with Bhagwan Vishnu in the form of Shaligram Ji.
According to the ancient Puranas, Tulsi Devi was born on earth as Vrinda Devi, the devoted wife of the mighty king Jalandhar. Her deep faith and purity gave Jalandhar extraordinary strength—no god could defeat him as long as Vrinda’s chastity was unbroken.
To restore balance in the universe, Lord Vishnu appeared before Vrinda disguised as her husband. The moment she realized it was the Lord Himself, her penance was broken, and Jalandhar lost his divine protection. When Vrinda discovered what had happened, she was heartbroken. Out of her deep pain and devotion, she cursed Vishnu to be turned into a stone. Accepting her curse with compassion, the Lord manifested as the sacred Shaligram Shila.
Overcome by sorrow and love, Vrinda left her mortal body. From her ashes grew the holy Tulsi plant. Lord Vishnu blessed her, saying, “You will always be dear to Me, and no worship of Mine will be complete without Tulsi leaves.”
Since then, every year in the month of Kartik (October–November), devotees celebrate their divine wedding—Tulsi Vivah—to honor the reunion of Bhakti and Bhagwan, Devotion and the Divine.
This sacred ceremony marks the end of Chaturmas and the beginning of an auspicious period for marriages and new beginnings. It is believed that those who perform or witness Tulsi Vivah receive immense blessings, peace, prosperity, and harmony in their homes.
May the grace of Tulsi Maharani and Lord Vishnu bring love, purity, and devotion into all our hearts.
